Mariko Ohigashi

Mariko Ohigashi, NYU/Tisch

Mariko Ohigashi is a costume designer for Theatre, Opera, Dance, and Film. She was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Mariko moved to the United States after spending a year at Nihon University College of Art, majoring in filmmaking.

Her recent design credits include The Fortress of Solitude directed by Daniel Aukin (NYU Tisch), George Bernard Shaw’s Misalliance directed by Janet Zarish (NYU Tisch), Old Horizon choreographed by Bobbi Jene Smith (SADC). Mariko apprenticed at the Santa Fe Opera (2015 season) and was a costume design assistant for The Exterminating Angel at the Salzburg Festival, designed by Hildegard Bechtler, which won the 2017 International Opera Awards for the World Premiere section.

She is the recipient of Shubert Scholars Scholarship, Melissa Schlachtmeyer Scholarship, and the Tisch School of the Arts Scholarship. Mariko has a BA from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and MFA from New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
