Carlo Maghirang

Carlo Maghirang, CalArts

Carlo Maghirang is a visual/installation artist and scenographer from the Philippines.

His body of work is an investigation of kinetic and transformative spaces that bridge the gap between sculptural work and immersive experiences. Recent notable works include a performance installation, Ocean of Milk, presented at the Prague Quadrennial in the Czech Republic, Scenic Designer for Rosanna Gamson’s Still/Restless, performed at the REDCAT, and as Associate Scenic Designer for David Byrne’s new musical, St. Joan of Arc: Into the Fire, at the Public Theatre, NY.

His work is also highly motivated by the potential of intercultural exchanges. Current international collaborations include Aleshea Harris’ new play Fore! directed by Arnaud Meunier and set to tour in France in January 2018, as well as an experimental workshop with Indonesian dance artist Didik Nini Thowok. He received his MFA in Scenic Design from California Institute of the Arts.
